The tradition of the Gala, the Lycée’s largest fundraiser and community event began in 1968 a glamorous night entitled Pique-Nique à Orly. Attendees arrived in travel clothes at Los Angeles Airport and enjoyed a boxed lunch and champagne walk through a giant Air France jet as well as entertainment hosted by the wry wit of Milton Berle and musical performances by Julie Andrews and Petula Clark. Each participant received souvenir programs that offered good wishes from such notables as Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, Bobby Kennedy and Frank Sinatra.
In 2006, Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles Gala Fundraiser moved to the Gala to the elegant Crystal Ballroom at the Beverly Hills Hotel and every year since, 500 guests gather at this glorious locale to raise funds that expand the scholarship program and maintain the high quality education of this bilingual school. Gala attendees have included Quincy Jones, Sylvie Vartan, Jodie Foster, Johnny Hallyday, and Cameron Crowe.
This year, Le Lycée families, alumni and other prestigious guests will again come together for an elegant evening under the veil of mask and cloak at le
Bal à Venise, Soirée Mascarade on
Friday, April 20th 2012.
Inspired by the grandeur and mystery of the Masquerade balls characteristic of the 15th century Carnival in Venice, Italy, participants will be entertained with performances by actors and musicians and invited to dance and gamble the night away while remaining anonymous behind a mask and clad in a cape or a elegant gown.
Champagne will flow at 6:30 PM followed by dinner at 7:30 PM accompanied by silent and live auctions. Longtime Lycée staff members Madame Cole and Monsieur Garnier will be honored for each contributing 30 years of dedicated service to the school, its staff, students and families.
